Recently I’ve been offering my design skills to no profit organizations for a chance to not only help great causes, but also to diversify my work and skills. I have worked with East Village San Diego on a couple postcards promoting their events. The latest postcard was for their breakfast on the topic of saving money on energy costs for businesses and residents of East Village.
Concept to completion of the illustration was a lot of fun. Laid some new-retro aesthetic to mesh nicely with the classic energy symbol as well as the vintage style character of the piggy bank. I wanted to create an image that immediately portrayed energy savings without much thought but also had some charm and a sense of nostalgia.
